Running around in circles? By Miriam Drewett

undefinedUsually I can be found running around the streets of Milton Keynes or the Stoneleigh Park showground but, more recently, I’ve been spotted running around the country attending piggy events, as well as the offices at headquarters, catching up on some of the many projects underway so that I can communicate it all to pig producers, vets and allied industry.

Although not a lover of running per se, it does serve a purpose of keeping me fit and healthy, and, importantly, letting me eat more! However, over the last few months, I’ve been suffering from a few niggles, so my running has been curtailed. In contrast, running around both at and for work seems to continue to grow exponentially! There’s just so much good stuff going on, it’s a pleasure to be able to share it with the industry.

It was great to get to one of Angela Cliff’s pig clubs a couple of weeks ago. Dr Adam Freer from Severn Trent Water and our very own Andrew Palmer spoke on the important topic of safeguarding water, explaining protection zones and offering some practical suggestions to help minimise run-off and borehole contamination. We’ve lots of info online on this subject if it’s something you want to find out more about.

I was also fortunate enough to attend the National Pig Awards a few weeks ago in London. I’d not been before and it was great to bump into some faces I’d not seen for quite some time, as well as recognising the huge amount of talent we have in the pig industry, both young and old!

It’s nearly Christmas now and I am looking forward to a bit of a break to hopefully recharge my batteries. You never know, I might even manage to put some miles under my belt to help burn off a few of the calories I’m bound to consume!
