EU spec SPP tops 160p
The EU-spec SPP moved up again in the week ending 7 December, the highest price since September 2017. This extends the price premium over the same week last year to 18.11p.
Estimated slaughter for the week was 188,000 head, around 300 head lower than last week, and 2,700 less than in the same week last year. The kill is likely staying high as processors work to meet the demand for the festive season, as well as exports.
Carcase weights were lighter again this week, at 84.20kg, however, still slightly heavier than last year
In the week ending 30 November, the EU-spec APP moved up, though by less than the SPP (+ 0.36p), and so the gap between the two narrowed to 1.63p.
For the week ending 7 December, the 7kg weaner price rose after last week’s fall, gaining £0.71/head on the week. The price is now over £7/head above a year ago.
Unfortunately, there was insufficient data to provide a 30kg weaner price this week.
