Limited supplies constrain German exports

The latest figures for German pork exports between January and September show a 2% fall in volumes, or 20,000 tonnes, to 1.31 million tonnes. What has changed more markedly, however, is the destination of these exports.

Increase in pig numbers in June 2019 Welsh survey

At 24,400 head, there was a 5% increase in the number of pigs in Wales in June 2019, according to the June Survey of Agriculture and Horticulture.

GB pig prices gain again

The EU-spec SPP moved up again in the week ending 30 November, recording the largest weekly increase for six weeks. This extends the price premium over the same week last year to 16.25p.

Latest Spanish pork export figures for January to September show an 8% increase in trade, with volumes reaching 1.22 million tonnes. This is a new record high for the nation.

Another gloomy month for red meat retail sales

GB retail sales have continued to struggle in the latest Kantar update. In the 12 weeks ending 3 November total beef sales declined 0.3% year-on-year, with lamb back 6.4% in volume. Pork volume sales were down 4%.

Strong EU pork exports in September

In September, EU pork exports rose by 37% compared with a year earlier, to 236,600 tonnes. This was the strongest growth recorded during a month in 2019 far.
