A slippery slope for GB pig prices

20 February 2019

The downward trend in GB pig prices continued for another week. In the week ended 16 February the EU-spec SPP fell 0.24p to 137.50p/kg, almost 9p below year earlier levels. EU pig prices also moved up slightly in the week ended 10 February.

13 February 2019

The EU-spec SPP continued on a downward trajectory in the week ended 9 February, back 0.41p to average 137.74p/kg. The current price is around 8p lower than the same week of 2018. Industry reports suggest that supply could become tighter in the coming months which could relieve some pressure on the price.
