June AHDB/BPEX calculations for the spread between farmgate and retail prices indicate a 1% increase in the producer share from the previous month, to 42%. While prices at the farmgate declined fractionally, the higher producer share was a consequence of falling retail prices. However, compared with the same month in 2013, producers received slightly less of the total retail price. June figures for retail bacon prices are not available, although the producer share increased marginally in May, back to the levels seen at the start of the year, at 37%. As such, the producer share of the retail bacon price was one percentage point down on a year earlier.

Retail prices declined for most cuts in June compared with a month earlier. Boneless shoulder showed the largest fall, by 5%, followed by 4% drops for boneless leg, loin steaks and diced pork. The only category to record an increase was minced pork, up 1% compared with May. The year on year comparison showed a more mixed picture, whereby prices for most cuts decreased, with the exception of loin chops and diced pork, which were dearer by 13% and 1% on the year. Boneless shoulder and boneless leg appeared the best value cuts compared with June 2013, down by 7% and 6% respectively. Traditional pork sausages fell by 5% on the year, while loin steaks and pork fillets dropped by a slower 4% and 2% respectively.
