Having fallen during early May, EU pig prices began to recover later in the month and into early June.

UK finished pig prices increased for the fourth week in a row, with the largest single gain in over a year.  In the week ended 20 June the EU-spec SPP was up by almost half a penny at 132.38p/kg, to the highest level since the end of March.

Global food prices hit lowest level since 2009

The latest food price index from the UN Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO), covering May, fell 1.4% from April and was down 21% from a year earlier. This leaves the index at its lowest level since September 2009.

There were only minor fluctuations in the UK finished pig price once again in the week ended 30 May, as the EU-spec SPP increased by less than a tenth of a penny to 131.18p/kg.

Polish breeding herd falls
