GB pig prices record a decline after stability last week - 10 Feb 2018
During the week ending 10 February, GB pig prices declined again, with the EU spec SPP falling 0.88p on the week, to 145.92p/kg. This follows just a week of stability with pig prices have recorded a downwards trend since the middle of 2017.
Estimated slaughterings fell back a bit week-on-week, to 181,100 head. Although this is a week-on-week decline, compared to the same week last year this is a 9% increase. Carcase weights recorded a gain of 300g on the week to 84.52kg.
The EU-spec APP continued to decline in the week ended 3 February. Prices stood at 149.89p/kg, a 0.41p fall on the previous week narrowing the gap between the APP and SPP for the same week 3.09p.
In the week ended 10 February, prices for 30kg and 7kg weaners diverged in trend, with 30kg weaners averaging £52.96/head, a decline on the week of 26p. While 7kg weaners averaged at £38.13/head, a gain of 81p week-on-week.
