Producer share of retail price steady

Home \ Prices & Stats \ News \ 2018 \ June \ Producer share of retail price steady

During May, the share of the pork retail price received by producers remained just below 39%, according to AHDB estimates, very close to April’s level.

The average farmgate pig price rose on the month, as did the average retail price. However, the producer share was four percentage points below year earlier levels, which is the largest annual decline since spring 2016. Since this time last year, the average farmgate price has fallen by over 12p/kg, while the average retail price has risen by around 11p/kg.

Looking at the individual cuts, most recorded very little month-on-month change. Boneless leg cuts increased in average price by 1%, contributing to the small overall rise in retail prices, while fillet of pork dropped by 1%. Loin chops rose by 3%. Compared to a year earlier most cuts have risen in price; average traditional pork sausage prices have risen the most (+11%).
