During the week ending 19 May, the EU-spec SPP gained 0.73p week-on-week, to 147.94p/kg. The measure currently stands 11.27p below the same week last year.

Estimated slaughterings for the week totalled 173,000 head, an increase of 1% on the revised estimated slaughterings in the prior week. Compared to throughputs in the same week last year, this week stood 3% higher. Average carcase weights rose by just under 300g on-the-week, to 83.38kg. Reports suggest that supply is tight, especially following the recent ‘BBQ weather’ which somewhat cleared out stocks.

The EU-spec APP recorded an increase of 0.48p week-on-week in the week ended 12 May. Standing at 150.12p/kg, the measure is almost 12p below year earlier levels. The gap between the APP and SPP narrowed slightly to 2.91p.

The 30kg weaner price in the week ending 19 May redressed the sharp decline in the previous week by re-gaining the lost ground (+£5.81), to £53.31 per head. Meanwhile, 7kg weaner price fell by 58p on-the-week to £37.06 per head.
