In the week ending 6 April, the EU-spec SPP declined for the second consecutive week. Prices fell by 0.06p to average 137.67p/kg. Prices still remain well over 7p below last year’s levels.

Estimated weekly slaughter was up by 1% (900 head) on the week, reaching 176,900 head. This is 4.3% (7,300 head) more than in the equivalent week last year. Despite the pick-up in the pace of slaughter over the past two weeks, overall slaughter for this year is still below last year. Carcase weights dropped back on the week, falling by 240g to average 84.98kg.

The EU-spec APP in the week ended 30 March declined by over half a penny, to stand at 142.62p/kg. Prices continue to track 5.5p below the equivalent week in 2018. The SPP did not fall to the same extent in the week, and as such the gap between the SPP and the APP narrowed to 4.89p.

In the week ending 6 April, 7kg weaner prices fell by 80p to £36.03/head. Likewise, 30kg weaner also declined, falling by 42p to £47.45/head.
