The national pig breeding herd in Northern Ireland has declined 7% (3,300 head) year-on-year, to 44,100 head, according to December census results from DAERA NI.

The overall pig herd declined 4% (22,400 head). The number of other pigs which includes suckling, weaner, finishers and cull pigs declined in number by 19,400 head (3%), and therefore accounted for most of the overall decline.
