French pork: production up, imports down, exports up

Home \ Prices & Stats \ News \ 2019 \ November \ French pork: production up, imports down, exports up

French pig prices usually follow the trend of other EU pig prices, although they are usually at a discount to the EU reference price. 2019 has been no different.

Over the summer French pig prices have rallied to reach €180/100kg in the week ending 10 November having begun the year at around €130.

Not only has production been higher during the year, but exports have risen too, primarily driven by a rise in shipments to China. During Q3 pig meat (including offal) exports to China have risen 68%, to 41,400 tonnes. Meanwhile, imports have declined. Together all this data also strongly implies a fall in domestic demand for pork.
