SPP gives back last week’s gains

Home \ Prices & Stats \ News \ 2019 \ September \ SPP gives back last week’s gains

The EU-spec SPP fell 0.43p in the latest week ended 7 September, to average 152.90p/kg. This followed the price increase last week. The price remains nearly 5p above the price at the same time last year.

Estimated weekly slaughter stood at 172,000 head, which is 5,000 higher than the previous week. Reports suggest most processors are looking to fill contract volumes now, which could support slaughter in the coming weeks. There is optimism that with new plant approvals, and continued price rises in China, export demand will receive a further boost. Carcase weights continue to rise and were up 80g on last week at 83.66kg.

The EU-spec APP for the week ended 31 August was 155.35p/kg, down slightly (0.28p) on the week. The difference between the APP and the SPP now stands at 2.02p, slightly narrower than the previous week.

For the week ended 7 September, the 7kg weaner price was £39.35/head, 6p higher than last week. This is £1.61 higher than last year. 30kg weaners stood at £51.89/head, £4.23 less than last week and £1.85 lower than last year.
