SPP moves up again but weaner prices drop

  • Estimated slaughter ↓to 182,000 head (w/e 21 September)
  • EU-spec APP ↑0.14p to 155.46p/kg (w/e 14 September)

There was another small increase in GB finished pig prices in the week ending 21 September. This puts prices over 6p above the same week last year. Estimated slaughter for the week totalled 182,000 head, 5,700 head less than in the previous week, but 6,400 head more than the same week last year. It’s worth noting that last week was the highest throughput so far this year.

There was a marginal increase in carcase weights, up by 60g, to 84.37kg. Finished pigs were on average nearly 1.5kg heavier than the same time last year.


In the week ending 14 September, the EU-spec APP was 3.72p/kg above the same week in the previous year. The SPP also saw a marginal increase in the week bringing the gap between the SPP and the APP to 2.39p.

For the week ending 21 September, 7kg weaner prices fell £1.42, reversing the price increase of last week and returning the price to £39.26. Despite the price dropping, it is still £4.86 above last year.  

There was insufficient data to provide a 30kg weaner price this week.
