SPP continues upwards trajectory
The EU- spec SPP continued its upwards trajectory for the 10th week in a row in the week ended 15 June, increasing 1.10p to an average of 148.95p/kg, the highest price seen since August last year. Though demand is reported as reasonably slow, the price is being supported by tighter supplies attributed to poorly performing animals.
Week on week, supplies dropped by 1,000 head with slaughterings estimated at 166,200 head. Average carcase weight dropped slightly again on the week, though still 250g heavier than last year.
In the week ended 8 June, the EU spec APP rose 1.28p compared to the previous week to average 150.66p/kg, the gap between SPP and APP reducing further to stand at 2.81p.
The 7kg weaner price fell just over 50p compared to last week to average £36.71/head. 30kg weaners averaged £50.74/head.
